Memes: NaNoWriMo and Firefly

This is a NaNoWriMo meme I got from sparkyred last year, and I liked it so much I thought I’d update it for this year.

BASIC STATS:

NaNo ID: Carfiniel
NaNo since: 2003

Working title: A Little Less Wild
WIP Genre: Dark urban/modern fantasy with a spiritual frisson
Projected word count: 100,000

AT THE START: DO YOU…
Have an Outline? Not exactly
Scene-by-scene? Not yet
Know how it starts? Yep. Already have the basic premise for the opening scene.
Know how it ends? Not a clue, but hopefully with more cheer than most urban fantasy I’ve read.
Have your climax in order? Nah.
Know your main characters yet? Yes.
Have a particular tone in mind? Dark, fey.
Plan to Draw on your own experiences? *quotes sparkyred*: Well, how many times have you had to steal a motorbike to escape from several demons who want to rip off your head? None? Exactly. Hahahaha!

IS YOUR WORK GOING TO BE:
Funny?I hope so!
Serious? Yes.
Sad? Slightly.
Semi-Autobiographical? No.
Based on another story? Nope. I’ve gleaned ideas from a couple of songs. I imagine Dante is going to play some part, because I like him. Especially Inferno.
Influenced by any authors/current publications? To a degree, Charles de Lint, Emma Bull, Terri Windling, Bordertown stuff, Will Shetterly, Neil Gaiman, the Romantic poets…

HOW HAVE MUCH YOU PLANNED? HAVE YOU USED:
A paper journal? Um, a notebook, yeah.
Multicolored pens? Duh!
A computer? Obviously.
Index cards? Most definitely! A plotting device since last year.
Lists? You bet
Bulleted lists? Yes, because I’m terribly geeky that way.
Plot Charts? I usually do these if I get lost during the writing process.
Character Charts? Nope.
Character formulas?  No.
Favorite writing resource: my website.  Or caffeine.

ODDS AND ENDS
A line you would like to use: “Hell says hello.” Because I didn’t use it last year.
A scene you would like to include: The main character dreaming of one woman and waking up to find another.
A concept you would like to explore: Reunion, redemption
A cliche you would like to avoid: 1001 “Christian novel” cliches
A character you would like to use: Wish I could borrow Gerald Tarrant for a while.

FORWARD THINKING
Do you expect to be able to complete it? Well, I did last year. Of course, this year I am doing school full-time, too…but I hope so!
Do you intend to complete it? Definitely.
What do you expect to get out of this month of frantic writing? A novel. Discipline. Hours of fun with characters I love.
